Junior Screw Machine Operator (Tornos)
Location: Kentwood, MI
A day in the life
Your shift starts at 8:00 pm. You step onto the production floor, review the job run, and walk the line of Tornos screw machines. You prep bar stock, confirm operational controls, and keep a sharp eye out for quality cues. When a tool hits its limit, you swap it, tweak slides, and dial in the cut. You keep collets and pushers in shape, replace cutoff tools as needed, and make careful adjustments to pickoff and cutoffs to hold tight tolerances.
Training you’ll receive in our Tornos Training Academy
- Basic components and operations of a Tornos screw machine
- Operational controls and foundational maintenance practices
- Preparing bar stock and restocking procedures
- Finding and diagnosing the causes of quality defects
- Changing tools and adjusting slides
- Shaving, roller supports, and floating holders
- Maintaining collets and pushers; replacing cutoff tools
- Adjusting pickoff and cutoffs
Schedule and onboarding
- Must work night shift – 8pm–6am (50 hours a week)
- Train on day shift for 4–6 weeks before moving to nights
- Pass an onsite aptitude test

- High school diploma or equivalent; technical/machining coursework is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and dedication to producing high-quality work
- Mechanical aptitude and a love of hands-on learning
