Environmental Health & Safety Specialist | DeWitt, MI

Salary Range: $59,000 - $91,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
• Conduct regular EHS inspections and audits of manufacturing facilities and operations.
• Develop and deliver EHS training programs for all employees, including new hires.
• Investigate all EHS incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Manage hazardous waste streams, wastewater discharge, and air emissions in accordance with permits and regulations.
• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
• Perform risk assessments and job hazard analyses to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
• Maintain EHS records and documentation, preparing required reports for regulatory agencies.

Recommended Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field.
• 3-5 years of progressive EHS experience, with a significant portion in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong understanding and practical application of federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
• Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage EHS programs (e.g., LOTO, confined space, hazard communication, waste management, incident investigation).
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with all levels of the organization.

Bonus Qualifications

• OSHA Outreach Trainer certification (General Industry)
• Experience as an internal auditor for ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001
• Proficiency with EHS management software platforms (e.g., Intelex, Cority, Sphera)
• Experience applying Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles to EHS processes
