Volunteer Coordinator
Full-Time (32 hours per week)
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (with occasional evenings or weekends for events)
Compensation: $18 per hour

About the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing
The Women’s Center of Greater Lansing (WCGL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing valuable, innovative resources and services in an atmosphere that fosters mutual support, insight, and growth for women of all backgrounds and ages as they strive to realize their own unique potential. WCGL offers mental health counseling, financial empowerment, and career and business development programs designed to help women achieve economic and emotional stability.
Position Summary
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to support the programs and operations of the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing. This position ensures a positive, organized, and rewarding volunteer experience that strengthens the Center’s capacity and community engagement.
In addition to volunteer management, the Volunteer Coordinator will assist with front desk reception duties two days per week, providing excellent customer service to clients, visitors, and partners.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment and Management
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit, screen, and onboard volunteers for a range of roles and events.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer records, schedules, and communications.
- Match volunteers’ skills and interests with organizational needs.
- Create and facilitate volunteer orientations and training sessions.
- Recognize and retain volunteers through appreciation and engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate with staff to identify volunteer needs for programs, projects, and special events.
Reception and Administrative Support (Two Days per Week)
- Greet clients, visitors, and community members in a professional and welcoming manner.
- Answer and direct phone calls, respond to general inquiries, and assist with scheduling appointments.
- Maintain the front office area and provide administrative support to staff as needed.
Community Engagement and Events
- Promote volunteer opportunities through community outreach, partnerships, and digital platforms.
- Represent WCGL at community events to raise awareness and recruit volunteers.
- Support event planning and logistics, including volunteer coordination for fundraising and program events.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Experience working with volunteers or in community engagement preferred.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace or similar software.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and alignment with the mission of the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing.
Work Environment
This is a full-time position based in Lansing, Michigan. Regular work hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend hours for events. Up to 25% of the role may be completed remotely.
