Embedded Systems Engineer | Portage, MI

Salary Range: $85,000 - $130,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement embedded software and firmware for manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
• Integrate embedded systems with industrial control systems (PLCs, SCADA) and other factory automation platforms.
• Perform rigorous testing, validation, and debugging of embedded systems to ensure reliability and performance on the production line.
• Provide expert technical support and rapid troubleshooting for embedded hardware and software issues affecting manufacturing operations.
• Optimize embedded system performance, communication protocols, and sensor integration for improved manufacturing efficiency and data acquisition.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to define system requirements and deploy solutions for new product introduction and process improvements.
• Maintain and upgrade existing embedded systems, ensuring robust operation and adherence to industry standards and safety regulations.

Recommended Qualifications

• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and microcontroller architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex-M).
• Strong understanding of digital/analog circuits, schematic interpretation, and hands-on experience with hardware debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
• Experience developing firmware for manufacturing test fixtures, production programming, and applying Design for Testability (DFT) principles.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Modbus, Ethernet/IP) and standard peripheral interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART).
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex hardware/firmware issues in a production or manufacturing environment.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, EtherCAT, PROFINET, OPC UA)
• Familiarity with PLC programming concepts and SCADA systems
• Experience integrating embedded systems with cloud platforms for IIoT applications
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for Operational Technology (OT) environments
