Fleet Mechanic

As a Fleet Mechanic, you will play a vital role in ensuring all company vehicles and equipment are operating at peak performance and ready for deployment during both routine and emergency situations. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse range of machinery and equipment in a dynamic environment, with a focus on safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on company vehicles and equipment, including trucks (gas and diesel), skid steers, wheel loaders, tractors, snowplows, salters, spreaders, mowers, small engines, and trailers.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine issues to minimize equipment downtime.
- Complete emergency repairs during snow events, including on-site fixes as needed.
- Repair or replace hydraulic hoses, pumps, cylinders, cutting edges, augers, and spinner motors.
- Maintain and calibrate salt spreader systems for optimal performance.
- Conduct seasonal equipment setup and tear-down, including pre-season snow equipment preparation and spring mower setup.
- Ensure all assets are ready for deployment during storms and peak seasons.
- Maintain accurate service logs, repair documentation, and parts inventory.
- Assist with DOT compliance, including inspections and documentation.
- Coordinate with operations leadership to prioritize repairs and communicate fleet status.
- Maintain an organized, safe, and clean shop environment.
- Manage parts ordering and vendor relationships.
- Support field teams by providing operator training on equipment use and basic maintenance.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for snow events and respond promptly to equipment breakdowns during storms or peak lawn season.
- Uphold company standards for professionalism and align actions with company values and culture.
Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of experience as a mechanic (automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, or small engine).
- Strong diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with hydraulic systems.
- Ability to weld, fabricate, and perform light machining.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform frequent bending, kneeling, and standing.
- Comfort working in various weather conditions, with flexibility for early mornings, overtime, weekends, and extended hours during snow events.
- Preferred: Experience in the snow and ice industry.
- Preferred: Small engine certifications (Kawasaki, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton).
- Preferred: Diesel repair training or certifications.
- Preferred: DOT inspection certification.
Compensation
$20 - $26 per hour, based on experience
