Manufacturing Process Optimization Engineer -- Canton Plant
Job Description
Job Description
Make Manufacturing Better, Every Day
At our production facility in Canton, MI, you’ll be the go-to engineer who turns complex problems into stable, efficient, and scalable manufacturing processes. Your day might begin with a floor walk to review dashboards and scrap trends, shift to a rapid root-cause dive on a line stoppage, and wrap up with a design-for-manufacturability review for an upcoming product launch.
What you’ll own- Troubleshoot new and existing product issues spanning design, materials, and process variables; apply statistical methods (e.g., SPC, 5-Why, 8D) to get to true root cause and implement corrective actions.
- Continuously improve throughput, quality, and cost using lean tools—Kaizen, 5S, SMED, and waste elimination—across fabrication, assembly, and inspection.
- Evaluate product designs for manufacturability and completeness (DFM/DFA); recommend design and tolerance changes grounded in GD&T and capability data.
- Define, document, and release robust manufacturing processes, standard work, and engineering procedures; maintain clear work instructions and change control.
- Communicate capacity, capability, and production schedules to stakeholders to keep build plans on track and risks visible.
- Lead and mentor technicians, technologists, and analysts to execute experiments, trials, and day-to-day support safely and effectively.
- Design, install, commission, and troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and automation cells; collaborate with vendors and internal maintenance.
- Validate processes and finished goods against specifications using designed tests, MSA/Gage R&R, and capability studies (Cp/Cpk).
- Estimate costs, cycle times, and staffing levels for new designs or process changes; contribute to budgets and capacity models.
- Train production personnel on new methods, equipment, gauging, and quality standards.
- Own spare parts strategies and perishable tooling life management to maximize uptime and consistency.
- Purchase equipment, materials, parts, and related resources; manage installation of production systems end-to-end.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
- 2–5 years supporting automation equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with spare parts management and perishable tooling control.
- Strong quality toolkit: part quality control, gauging/metrology, print reading, GD&T, FMEA/PFMEA.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with the English proficiency to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
- Preferred: familiarity with ISO 9001/14001 and related management systems.
