Executive Staff Assistant
DUTIES:
Provides support for the administrative section of the Health Department.
Serves as liaison between the Health Department and other county departments or outside agencies and organizations.
Handles important contacts with customers and the general public, which are vital to the department's operations.
Performs complex secretarial duties requiring knowledge of department rules and regulations and the exercise of independent judgment.
Compiles information and statistics; prepares a variety of reports.
Maintains Medical Examiner reports, permits and financial records.
Oversees administrative office supplies and inventory; orders supplies according to established procedures.
Supervises filing of records; maintains filing system.
Oversees the functioning and staffing of the department switchboard operations and transportation services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in a business related field or graduation from an accredited secretarial school and a minimum of two years of clerical experience with six months of word processing experience; OR High school diploma or GED certificate and a minimum of four years of clerical experience with six months of word processing experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator's license throughout the course of employment and have access to a reliable vehicle.
In times of a public health emergency, may be required to report for specialized assigned duties inside or outside of Berrien County.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Accustomed to typical office practices, with proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and software, particularly Microsoft Office.
Highly organized with a strong attention to details.
Excellent communication skills and writing abilities.
Able to work effectively with other health and human service agencies, especially at the executive level.
TYPING REQUIREMENT:
Must have a typing speed of 40 words per minute net. If you have not taken a typing test with Berrien County, please contact Personnel by phone or email to schedule one.
