Lead Statewide Quality Coach

Location: Michigan (local to assigned region, with some statewide travel)
Reports To: 21CCLC Coaching Supervisor
Term Limited Role: November 2025- September 30, 2026
Employment Type: 1099 Contractor
Hourly Rate: $40/hour

Job Summary
The Lead Coach combines direct coaching with leadership responsibilities. In addition to carrying a limited coaching caseload with Michigan’s 21st Century Community Learning Center (21CCLC) programs, the Lead Coach provides oversight and coordination to support consistency and quality across the statewide coaching team. The Lead Coach ensures that coaching aligns with the Youth Program Quality Improvement (YPQI) approach, supports staff development, and communicates effectively with the Coaching Supervisor and state partners.

Key Responsibilities
Coaching
  • Carry a limited caseload of direct coaching assignments with site staff.
  • Facilitate structured four-session coaching cycles with practitioners.
  • Conduct external observations using the Program Quality Assessment (PQA).
  • Model and co-lead activities with staff to demonstrate effective youth development practices.

Leadership and Coordination

  • Provide light oversight and support to Statewide Quality Coaches, helping ensure consistency in approach and quality of delivery.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for coaches regarding day-to-day coaching practices, referring final supervisory decisions to the Coaching Supervisor.
  • Support the onboarding, training, and mentoring of new coaches.
  • Coordinate communication across the coaching team, including scheduling team check-ins, sharing resources, and surfacing needs.
  • Provide input to the Coaching Supervisor on coach performance, site needs, and statewide trends.
  • Contribute to reporting and documentation required by the grant.

Qualifications
Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, social work, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a teacher, youth worker, or program leader in afterschool or community-based education.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform youth development practices on the PQA at level five.
  • Strong skills in communication, facilitation, data analysis, and collaboration.
  • Experience providing coaching, mentoring, or professional development for adult learners.
  • Familiarity with the Youth Program Quality Improvement (YPQI) approach.
  • Completion of External Assessor Reliability Training (EART).
  • Training-of-Trainers certification in Youth Work Methods and/or Youth Work Management.
  • Prior leadership experience in coaching or professional learning communities.

Working Conditions

  • Approximately 25–30 hours per week for 40 weeks.
  • Recruited statewide to serve programs in local regions, with some travel to additional sites as needed.
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate coaching sessions and team meetings.
