Job Description

This 1st shift Maintenance Technician role focuses on keeping production equipment in the mixing and mill areas running safely and efficiently. You will perform mechanical and basic electrical maintenance on power transmission systems, respond quickly to downtime events, and carry out preventive maintenance to optimize productivity. The position includes occasional weekend work and minor facility maintenance tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support product-specific work cells to minimize downtime and maximize productivity in the mixing and mill areas.
  • Respond promptly to equipment downtime situations, diagnose issues, and restore machines to safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all assigned work cells, including inspection, adjustment, lubrication, and replacement of components.
  • Document all maintenance activities accurately, including work performed, parts used, and observations about equipment condition.
  • Evaluate equipment during maintenance to identify potential future maintenance needs and emerging issues.
  • Perform process verification procedures to ensure equipment operates within defined parameters.
  • Follow process deviation procedures when changing operating parameters, ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
  • Carry out mechanical repairs such as fabricating parts and repairing or replacing bearings, drives, belts, and other power transmission components.
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic pumps that drive mixer blades and cooling pumps that cool mixer bowls.
  • Service and maintain conveyors, belts, drives, and material transfer systems similar to those used in baking equipment.
  • Perform minor facility maintenance repairs as assigned, coordinating closely with facility maintenance personnel.
  • Use mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical troubleshooting techniques to identify root causes of equipment problems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation to guide maintenance and repair work.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment when working in production and maintenance areas.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by recommending maintenance-related improvements to equipment reliability and performance.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience performing maintenance and preventive maintenance (PM) on industrial equipment.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with hydraulic repairs on production or process equipment.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with pneumatic repairs on production or process equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance, including power transmission components such as conveyors, gearboxes, belts, drives, and material transfer systems.
  • Experience performing machine repair and maintenance repair in a production or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to perform preventive and preventative maintenance tasks systematically and consistently.
  • Basic electrical maintenance experience, including electrical troubleshooting on production equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
  • Ability to follow established process verification and process deviation procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced production manufacturing environment and respond quickly to changing priorities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with heavy mixing equipment or similar processing equipment.
  • Experience in automation systems within a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the automotive industry or with automotive-related manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with equipment similar to baking mixers and related material handling systems.
  • Familiarity with vibration-related products or processes in a manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production manufacturing environment within the vibrations industry, focused on mixing and mill equipment and related power transmission systems. The pace is fast, and you will work around operating machinery and material handling equipment. At times, you will perform tasks in areas where personal protective equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety shoes is required. The work involves hands-on mechanical and basic electrical tasks on equipment similar to industrial baking mixers, conveyors, and rolling mills, along with minor facility maintenance work. You will work primarily on 1st shift, with occasional weekend work as needed to support production and maintenance schedules.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of GRAND RAPIDS, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.
