Executive Director of the Wyoming Press Association The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, strategic plan, revenue stream and financial viability of the WPA organizations including the advertising service, Wyoming News Exchange, and foundation. Other key duties include legislative advocacy, revenue development, event planning and sponsorships, marketing and outreach. The position reports directly to the WPA Board of Directors and works directly with the WPA Foundation, WPA Deputy Director and Wyoming News Exchange Director. Documented accomplishments in a result-driven, detail-oriented and innovative business operation must be part of your work history. • You are capable of collaborating and meeting diverse member needs while quickly developing trust and credibility in the industry. • You are keenly aware of the financial challenges facing newspapers and are devoted to securing sources of diversified revenue to help local independent journalism in Wyoming thrive. • You understand the importance of public notices for the public and newspapers along with other sunshine laws and has a good understanding of the Wyoming Legislature and legislative issues related to the industry. ABOUT US: The WPA is at the forefront of legislative policy protecting newspaper media. We support the protection of the First Amendment and Sunshine Laws through advocacy, education and community outreach. Our mission is dedicated to the preservation, progression and professional development of its members. We offer expertise, resources, training and collaborative opportunities to extend the capacity and sustainability of newspapers in our state. The WPA is also united in the vision of securing the future of Wyoming newspapers by contributing to the economic success of its member businesses, fostering best practices among newspaper employees and promoting the interests of our industry so we may continue to help our readers be engaged members of their communities. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Responsible for leading WPA in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by its Board of Directors. • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions. • Responsible for driving the revenues necessary to support WPA’s mission. • Responsible for fiscal integrity, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and to provide financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization. • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. • Responsible for implementation of WPA’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission, including supporting the annual meeting, trainings, contests and communications. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED • A bachelor’s degree. • Transparent and high integrity leadership. • Ability to learn on own and teach. • Seven years of experience in working in a media environment, ad agency or trade association. • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors. • High level strategic thinker and planner. • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff and committees. • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results. • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including partner agencies, associations and government officials. • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation. • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting. • Strong written and oral communication skills. • Strong experience with MS Office. • Excellent public speaking ability. • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy. Work Location The Wyoming Press Association office is located in historic downtown Cheyenne, WY near the state capital. This is a full-time, in-office position.
