Company Description

The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan serves as a common solicitor, storehouse and distributor of food on behalf of its Partner Agencies which are non-profit, charitable organizations serving those in need.

Today the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan provides over 25 million pounds of food each year to those in need through more than 415 partner agencies. Partner Agencies consist of local soup kitchens, shelters, and food pantries who strive to feed the more than 300,000 people in eastern Michigan who are food insecure. The excellent relationships established within the Food Bank’s 22 county service area and throughout the state has allowed for numerous programs and initiatives to help fight hunger.

Job Description

To pick up and deliver prepared meals to summer feeding and/or distribution sites throughout the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan’s service area, while complying with Feeding America & AIB/ Safe food Handling requirements. The driver will ensure superior customer service to all internal team members and other stakeholders of the organization. All activities will support the organization’s mission, culture, and strategic plan objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Create and maintain a positive work environment in alignment with the Company core values.
• Timely and professional execution of product pick-up and delivery to feeding and/or distribution sites.
• Maintain rapport with all stakeholders of the Food Bank to foster continued support and professional working relationships within community.
• Maintain accurate records of vehicle operations and maintenance daily, in compliance with department and DOT regulations.
• Load and off-load company vehicle as required while exercising safe lifting practices.
• Assist in maintaining an orderly and sanitary work environment that meets company policy & outside regulatory standards.
• Perform routine general maintenance and repairs on assigned vehicles, reporting problems to the Transportation Manager
• Complete and perform accurate follow-through on documentation for shipping, receiving, unloading, and warehousing of product, as defined by FBEM policies and procedures.
• Assist other drivers/warehouse staff with their responsibilities, as directed by the management.
• Perform duties in accordance with FBEM safety policy.
• Maintain all current licenses, certifications in accordance/compliance with FBEM and State mandated requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be licensed driver for minimum of one year
  • Must possess a current Michigan Chauffeur License or CDL-B
  • Previous professional driving and delivery experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and consistently with minimal supervision
  • Capable of following standardized procedures and protocols
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate delivery and vehicle records
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing schedules and assignments
  • Physically able to perform heavy lifting, loading, and unloading of goods as required

Additional Requirements:

  • Must complete criminal background screening
  • Subject to motor vehicle record (MVR) review
  • Subject to pre-employment drug testing

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS
On-the-road with frequent stops at feeding sites, agencies, suppliers, and donors. Working in all summer weather conditions on truck lift gates, parking lots, docks, and in donor/supplier warehouses and store back-ends.


Requires a significant level of physical effort. Standing, carrying, bending, stretching, stooping, pulling, and pushing, lifting weights up to 50 pounds. Working conditions involve noise, heat, changes in temperature, kitchen elements, odors, moisture, etc. May be required to work additional hours as dictated by the workload and staffing.
