Distribution Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Distribution Engineer. This role involves connecting new homes and commercial businesses to the energy grid or upgrading existing connections to the distribution grids. The selected individual will perform field work and have the flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field work, taking notes, pictures, and measurements to create work packages.

  • Develop electrical drawings and perform electrical analysis to determine necessary materials for site connections.

  • Complete engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop, and flicker.

  • Select materials and create a Bill of Materials using the SAP software system.

  • Coordinate with utility companies' field installation teams, ensuring electrical work packages are complete and accurate.

  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously, adjusting field work scheduling according to project needs and weather conditions.

  • Interact daily with supervisors, peer groups, and customers to exchange and present factual information.

  • Perform 60%-80% of engineering and development of design packages for construction crews and 10% administrative tasks, planning, and customer follow-up.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering or an Associate's Degree with relevant experience.

  • 0-2 years of experience for Bachelor's degree holders or 1-3 years for Associate's degree holders.

  • Experience working directly with an electric utility or engineering consulting company.

  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD and Microstation.

  • Ability to perform in both field and office settings.

  • Capability to lift 20 pounds and walk up to 2 miles on unpaved surfaces.

  • Ownership of reliable transportation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).

  • Familiarity with software like PoleForeman, SAP, and Microstation.

  • Fundamentals of Engineer certification.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal.

  • Collaborative mindset with a positive attitude.

  • Ability to work effectively in diverse and inclusive teams.

Work Environment

The position is based in multiple territories, including Sparta/Greenville, Muskegon/Fremont, Big Rapids/Cadillac and Traverse City. The role involves 10%-20% field inspections and 60%-80% engineering and development work, with the option to work remotely on other days. Professional dress and demeanor are expected.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sparta, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $29.00/hr.
