Legal Assistant/Paralegal
Aloia Law is a boutique law firm specializing in complex commercial litigation, real estate and business transactions, and municipal law. We are a small, well-established firm with an exceptional reputation for providing personalized service and maintaining long-term client relationships.
We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our team in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of experience, with a background in litigation, real estate, and/or municipal law preferred. This role provides comprehensive administrative and legal support to multiple attorneys and requires the ability to manage a varied workload in a fast-paced environment. The position also serves as occasional backup to the front desk receptionist, ensuring consistent phone coverage and professional client interaction.
We are looking for a candidate who is highly organized, can prioritize tasks effectively, and step up to support the team as needed. Just as important, we are looking for someone who brings a positive, collaborative attitude—someone who is dependable, takes pride in their work, contributes to a supportive team culture, and is committed to exceptional client service.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Managing attorney dockets, calendars and files, including complex litigation documents
- Maintaining records using document management software
- Preparing, proofreading, and editing of correspondence, memos, pleadings and other legal documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Submitting court filings and following up with clerks on filings, dates, and appearances
- Providing occasional telephone coverage and cross-lateral administrative support, including preparing conference rooms and answering phones as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters
Required qualifications and skills:
- Minimum 3 years of litigation experience (3 to 5 years preferred)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient in current Microsoft Office 365 applications, Adobe Pro, and legal document management software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with superior drafting and proofreading skills
- Strong knowledge of Michigan Court Rules and local rules applicable to Macomb, Wayne and Oakland Counties
- Proficiency in Michigan state and federal court e-filing systems
- Understanding of office procedures, legal terminology, common software applications, and filing procedures
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a diverse workload for multiple attorneys
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and business acumen when interacting with clients, potential clients, guests of the firm, and coworkers.
- Self-driven and effective working independently or as part of a team.
- Designation as a Certified Legal Secretary is a plus
Candidates must demonstrate a professional demeanor, a strong work ethic, and perform efficiently in a dynamic, deadline driven environment. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. Please send your resume along with a cover letter outlining your experience and interest in the position to Human Resources at [email protected].
