POSITION SUMMARY
The Toyota Service Technician functions as a skilled-level technician capable of performing diagnoses and repairs across all vehicle systems, with additional specialization in particular areas of repair. This role requires technical expertise, efficiency, and a commitment to delivering quality work in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Diagnostics & Repair
Perform work as outlined on the repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with Toyota, Serra Saginaw and factory standards
Diagnose the cause of malfunctions and perform necessary repairs
Examine assigned vehicles to determine if additional safety or service work is required or recommended
Communicate with the Service Advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if outlined work is not necessary, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
Road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician
Perform multi-point inspections on every vehicle
Utilize XTIME Inspect on 100 percent of repair orders
Documentation & Communication
Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order
Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts
Save and tag parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer
Report machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor
Ensure that customers' vehicles are kept clean and notify Service Advisors immediately of anything that changes the appearance or condition of a vehicle
Training & Development
Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events
Stay current on manufacturer technical bulletins
Supervise the work of apprentice technicians as assigned, if applicable
Safety & Compliance
Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner
Maintain and account for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper location and in the same condition as received
Understand and comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know requirements
Report any safety issues immediately to management
Keep the shop area neat and clean at all times
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
State certification required; ASE Certification preferred
Skills & Requirements
Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and technical documentation
Complete set of personal hand and power tools required for the work performed
Ability to use a hoist and diagnostic equipment
Valid driver's license with a good driving record
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a physically demanding position. Most work is performed standing or walking. The technician will be required to wear a uniform daily and will use a computer regularly. As this role is located in an automobile dealership, the individual may be exposed to elements associated with vehicle repair, painting, and maintenance.
