Premier Excavating is a small, fast-growing excavation and sitework contractor based in Byron Center, Michigan. We specialize in earthwork and utilities (water, sanitary, storm) for commercial, residential, and municipal projects across West Michigan.

About the Role

We’re seeking a motivated, relationship-driven professional to join our team in a hybrid role of Business Development, Estimating, and Project Coordination.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both the people side and the operational side of construction — helping bring in new work, prepare estimates, assist with job management and scheduling. You’ll work directly with ownership to help grow the company’s client base while ensuring projects run smoothly once they’re awarded.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, engineers, and developers.
• Identify and pursue bid opportunities for excavation and sitework projects.
• Review plans, perform takeoffs, and prepare detailed cost estimates.
• Assist with project management: ordering materials, coordinating subs, and tracking progress.
• Assist with scheduling crews, equipment, and daily jobsite activities.
• Attend networking events, pre-bid meetings, and project walkthroughs.
• Represent Premier Excavating with professionalism and a commitment to quality.

Qualifications

• Must have prior experience in this exact type of position — business development, estimating, and/or project coordination within the excavation or sitework industry.
• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
• Ability to read and understand construction plans and bid documents.
• Self-motivated and eager to help a small business grow.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel throughout West Michigan.
