Tool Room Supervisor | Ludington, MI

Salary Range: $60,000 - $90,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the tool room, ensuring efficient management of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
• Manage tool inventory, including receiving, issuing, tracking, and reordering of tooling.
• Supervise and train tool room personnel, assigning tasks and monitoring performance.
• Implement and enforce maintenance schedules for all tooling to ensure optimal condition and longevity.
• Maintain accurate records of tool usage, repairs, and calibration.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure tooling meets specifications and production needs.
• Implement and adhere to safety procedures and regulations within the tool room environment.
• Manage the procurement process for new tooling and spare parts, working with vendors and suppliers.

Recommended Qualifications

• Journeyman Tool & Die Maker certification or equivalent progressive experience.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a machine shop or tool room environment.
• Proficient in operating manual and CNC machine tools, including mills, lathes, and surface grinders.
• Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
• Experience with workflow scheduling, project management, and tool inventory control systems.
• In-depth knowledge of tool steel properties, heat treating processes, and precision metrology.

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing principles such as 5S and Kaizen.
• Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam) for print interpretation.
• Familiarity with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or ERP software.
• Formal training or certification in project management.
