Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

Administer culturally relevant GED preparation, instruction and materials to farmworker participants admitted to MSU HEP; coordinate and manage student development and test assessments; provide academic and career advising to enhance the success of students.

• Provides evening instruction for GED subject areas of Reasoning through Sciences, and/or Mathematical Reasoning. The instruction could be in Spanish or English, using online services.

• Assist with late afternoon/early evening tutoring sessions and post-secondary placement workshops.

• Maintain accurate records of students' participation and provides reports to supervisors.

• Assists in the development of GED subject's curricula for MSU HEP purposes.

• Plan, coordinate and present and/or attend student development and enrichment activities.

• Attend regular HEP faculty and staff meetings.

• Assist in assuring that program goals and objectives are achieved.

• Timely submission of payroll timesheets on a bi-weekly basis;

• Perform any other duties as assigned by Lead Instructor, HEP Associate Director and Farmworker Student Services Interim Director

• Starting pay ranges from $19 to $21 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.

Desired Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education desired or demonstrated equivalent experience and education in a related field.

• Demonstrates experience teaching basic skills to high school students, teens, or adults, preferably GED instruction.

• Possesses strong knowledge and experience using email, web-based communications (including zoom), and Microsoft Software.

• Structures work assignments to produce maximum high-quality results efficiently with minimal supervision.

• Holds a valid driver's license and is comfortable driving as required.

• Reads, writes and communicates fluently in English and Spanish.

• Experience working with farmworker students, knowledge of their values and belief systems, their educational issues, and ability to provide culturally relevant services.

• Experience in academic advising desired.

• Ability to work with instructors, staff, and administrators.

• Ability to organize, prioritize, maintain confidentiality, and foster a team environment.
