Spanish Teacher, Grades 1-8
Detroit Waldorf School is currently accepting applications for a Spanish Language Teacher for Grades 1–8. We are seeking a teacher who is fluent in Spanish, enthusiastic about Waldorf education, and experienced in working with elementary and middle school students. The ideal candidate brings a love of language, strong classroom management skills, and a warm, collaborative spirit to their teaching.
Schedule and Responsibilities:
This is a full-time, salaried position during the school year, delivering a developmentally appropriate Waldorf Spanish language curriculum twice per week for each class in grades 1–8.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing weekly lessons aligned with Waldorf pedagogy and the developmental stages of each grade
- Teaching through games, songs, and poetry in early grades, and vocabulary, grammar, and conversation in middle school
- Participating in student supervision, school festivals, and community events, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Communicating effectively with parents and colleagues about student progress and school activities
- Participating in Parent-Teacher Conferences (twice per year or as needed)
- Completing weekly Shared Time record-keeping
- Attending faculty meetings, mentoring sessions, and professional development opportunities
Qualifications:
An excellent candidate will have:
- A bachelor’s degree (required)
- Fluency in Spanish (native speakers strongly preferred)
- Experience teaching grades 1–8, preferably in a Waldorf or similar educational setting
- Interest in or training in Waldorf pedagogy (Waldorf teacher training or experience is a plus)
- A collaborative, reflective teaching style and a strong, positive classroom presence
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Candidates must also be eligible to participate in Shared Time programming .
