Elementary Music Teacher

St. Thecla Catholic School is looking for a Music Teacher for our Kindergarten through eighth-grade students.

The Elementary Music Teacher is responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive music program for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade, fostering a love of music while supporting students’ musical, academic, social, and spiritual growth. The teacher creates engaging lessons in music appreciation, vocal and instrumental performance, rhythm, movement, and music literacy within a positive, nurturing classroom environment.

The teacher candidate should be able to

• Plan and deliver age-appropriate music instruction aligned with curriculum standards and school expectations.
• Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics, and music appreciation.
• Prepare students for seasonal programs and performances.
• Integrate creativity, movement, and participation into daily lessons.
• Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, cooperation, and enthusiasm for music.
• Maintain classroom instruments, music resources, and equipment.
• Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and upcoming performances.
• Uphold school policies, procedures, and educational mission.
• Occasional evening events or performances may be required.
• Supports and promotes the mission and values of St. Thecla Catholic School.
• Incorporates faith-based values and appropriate sacred music into instruction
• Models Christian behavior and values in all interactions with students, families, and staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field.
• Valid teaching certification/license preferred or required according to state guidelines.
• Knowledge of elementary music instruction and child development.
• Ability to direct student performances and manage classroom behavior effectively.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

All teachers in the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and/or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan. The candidate must complete fingerprinting, background check, and the Protecting God’s Children virtual workshop prior to working with students.
