Summary: The Christian Service Coordinator is a part-time, professional staff member who provides overall leadership and coordination to the parish’s continuous work of Christian Service in the community. St. Colette Parish has consistently maintained a strong commitment to this ministry. As a demonstration of the prioritization provided by the members and leadership of the parish, the Christian Service Coordinator serves as a true leader of parishioners and a manager of facilities, resources, and programs. With the Christian Service Commission, this person rallies the parish’s response to Catholic Social Teaching, in our climate of renewal as missionary disciples of Christ in conjunction with the Parish Mission.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide the parish with awareness of human needs, coordination of means by which to respond, and encouragement of parishioners to participate and play roles of responsibility.
  • Work to convey the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and help to engender, through one’s own behavior and demeanor, the ultimate respect and care that is due to each person.
  • Create and promote programs for parishioner participation in Christian Service, including program design, resource allocation, promotion, enlistment of volunteers, cleanup, etc.
  • Foster a culture of regarding “the whole person” so that we increasingly serve both the corporal and spiritual needs of those to whom we minister.
  • Foster a culture of essential evangelization, by which every person we serve is in some way welcomed to come join us.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Christian Service Commission and other groups such as parish staff, Archdiocesan staff, and other parish and community groups having complimentary missions.
  • Develop and execute programs that provide parishioners with the opportunity for growth through service, whether serving individually or as members of a parish group.
  • Recruit, train, and support a network of Christian Service ministry volunteers who will commit to roles of service.
  • Discern promising leaders and help to mentor their growth through increasing responsibility in Christian Service ministry.
  • Prepare and maintain the annual budget for the Christian Service Programs.
  • Partner with all areas of ministry in the church to develop coordinated efforts for Christian Service outreach.
  • Generate print, social media, and website content that raises awareness of social justice concerns along with program advertising (including speaking at Masses).
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the pastor.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Support and acceptance of the Parish Vision for Catholic Missionary Disciples.
  • Experience in recruitment, training, and support of volunteers.
  • Basic knowledge of the operations of a Catholic parish.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a pastoral team.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and program solving.
  • Ability to concurrently plan and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Preference for a bachelor’s degree (Arts/Sciences) and Archdiocese of Detroit’s Certification for Christian Service Coordinator (or willingness to attain that Certification).
  • Has participated in the Safe Environments program which includes a background check, Protecting God’s Children, according to the norms established by the Archdiocese of Detroit.
  • 19 hours expected per week. Hours may be adjusted for evening and weekend programs, to keep the hours at 19 hours per week. Able to maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, is a must.
  • Entitled to personal and sick days, and compensation package as required by the Archdiocese of Detroit.
  • The Christian Service Coordinator shall be evaluated (as do all parish employees) at the annual performance review in the Spring.
