Summary
The Director of Ministry leads and advances K12 ministry at the Grand Rapids Dream Center by developing youth spiritually, equipping volunteers, and driving excellence in weekly programming and community outreach. This role provides hands-on leadership for Powerhouse youth ministry within Adopt-A-Block community nights and other youth initiatives, ensuring strong discipleship, consistent engagement, and leadership pathways for youth and volunteers. The Director of Ministry models active discipleship, fosters relational ministry, and supports meaningful transformation in the lives of children, youth, and families in the neighborhoods GRDC serves.
Essential Functions
Accountabilities:
- Oversee and nurture the lead volunteers for Adopt a Block (Powerhouse)
- Coordination & advancement of volunteers (men's)
- Execute men's programs
- Optimize program curriculum (Men's)
- Coordination & advancement of participants (men's)
- Ministry Events (planning and presence)
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee weekly K12 ministry programming, ensuring spiritual depth, strong engagement, and operational excellence.
- Recruit, onboard, equip, and develop volunteers into increasing levels of leadership and ownership.
- Facilitate and optimize ministry curriculum to ensure age-appropriate discipleship and measurable spiritual growth.
- Create clear leadership pathways for students and volunteers to grow from participation to leadership.
- Provide hands-on weekly leadership for Adopt-A-Block Powerhouse, ensuring strong volunteer coordination and community engagement.
- Develop and coach key volunteer leaders to expand ministry capacity and sustainability.
- Coordinate ministry events and outreach initiatives that align with GRDCs mission and vision.
- Foster consistent communication and collaboration with staff and ministry leaders to ensure alignment and advancement.
- Model active discipleship by mentoring students and investing personally in developing emerging leaders.
- Evaluate ministry effectiveness and implement improvements to strengthen long-term impact.
Qualifications & Experience
- Deep, biblically grounded faith with theological clarity in core Christian doctrine (formal training preferred, not required).
- Minimum 710 years of proven leadership experience building and overseeing teams, developing leaders, and implementing sustainable ministry systems.
- Demonstrated success in raising up leaders through life-on-life discipleshipnot just program management or corporate ministry.
- Experience in (or strong understanding of) urban ministry and poverty dynamics preferred, particularly in contexts marked by family fragmentation and limited male presence.

- Reports to: Executive Director
- Direct Reports: Youth, Property, Assistance Logistics Admin & Coordinator
- Works Closely With: Women's Director, Executive Admin, Volunteers
Travel Requirements
- Day to day travel through Grand Rapids including to and from our 2 community house sites in the southeast side of GR
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and walking around
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
