Technician

Casting Operator

Responsible for operating machines and equipment within the Casting department. Casting operators may perform several different functions within the Casting department in order to meet production needs.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Following safety rules 100% of the time.
• Contributing to a safe work environment by following housekeeping guidelines.
• Maintaining good attendance.
• Following instructions and working to meet daily job assignments and KPIs.
• Rotating within work area when directed.
• Monitoring equipment condition and production quality and ensuring all products are processed in accordance with quality guidelines, customer requirements, and the company's control plan.
• Openly communicating with team leader and/or quality regarding concerns.
• Completing product tracking logs for various types of products.
• Performing other relevant work as assigned.
• Completing required paperwork neatly and in a timely manner.
• Performing at least one, but often several, of the below functions:
• Desprue: Checking the result of automatic desprue process and examining the appearance of wheels.
• Deslag: Opening and closing furnace door for pours, pushing slag, replenishing aluminum liquid for casting holding furnaces, and deslag low-pressure casting holding furnaces.
• Download: Preparing, sorting, and stacking finished wheels and storing and/or shipping finished wheels.
• Heat Treatment: Performing operation of heat treatment equipment in accordance with quality standards.
• X-Ray: Performing operation of x-ray inspection in accordance with quality standards.
• Ancillary/1st Piece Inspection: Visually and mechanically verifying quality points on each casting at specified intervals, deciding whether the inspected product meets quality standards, and communicating with other operators to rectify any abnormalities.

Skills and experience include:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six months experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and understand written documents.

• Ability to work in a hot environment.
• Ability to lift and move aluminum wheels of varying weight.
• Ability to lift 50 65 pounds.
• Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours per day.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment when required.
