Junior Systems Administrator
This position provides support in the following areas:
● Site Network and System Monitoring
● Remote Monitoring of systems and services located at other Locations
● Ticket Review and Management
● Call Center Activities including call-out, customer, service support and vendor Communications
● Documentation of Activities Performed and Development of Procedures
● Data Center Information Management including asset, inventory, network and power systems
● Change Control Processing, Documentation and Communications
● Installation of servers and other equipment on the computer room floor
Day to day activities include visually reviewing equipment states, tracking and responding to repair and other tickets, monitoring the operations and statuses of servers and services on multiple computer screens, tracking and confirming computer room and other inventories, receiving/shipping repair components and tracking them, reviewing and managing computer room assets, confirming and labeling equipment and cabling, installing and removing servers and cabling as needed, contacting service and vendor support personnel, identifying and classifying issues and escalate as needed, document procedures, operations and functions and perform general organizational and cleaning duties of work and computer room areas.
Participation in a positive, respective and cooperative team environment is essential to this job. The employee must practice and follow all internal and external procedures, guidelines and all recommended best practices.
This position would participate in covering various shifts as assigned and also participating in an on-call rotation for one week durations per on-call instance.
● Performs daily system monitoring through various tools adopted by the High Performance Computing Division (HPCD), verifying the integrity and availability
hardware, server resources, network disruption awareness and predefined key processes.. Escalates issues identified through system monitoring as defined by asssociated SLAs and other working agreements.
● Assists with the installation, relocation, and removal of computing systems and associated network cabling using best practices
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
● Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
● Ability to determine when internal system support, vendor support or other technical resources should be consulted.
● Ability to follow best practices and procedures as defined and determine Severity One situations and escalation protocols.
● Ability to learn or have experience in performing hardware repairs on desktops and servers is required.
● Ability to learn or have experience with monitoring systems such as Check_mk.
● Familiarity with large data center operations.
● Ability to clearly communicate in both verbal and written form with Systems Engineers (SE) and System Administrators within the organization.
● Familiarity with securing multi-user environments following security defined best practices.
● Ability to learn or have experience with creating, developing and writing technical documentation.
● Ability to work as an active contributing member in a team environment.
● Proven ability to communicate with technical, non-technical and management audiences.
● Knowledge of Help Desk support is desired.
● Knowledge of rudimentary Windows Administration is desired
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
● 1-2 years of direct professional experience in an IT environment; or
● An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
DESIRED (but not required):
● Associates degree in a relevant discipline.
● Knowledge of DBMS such as MySQL
● Working knowledge of Linux environments including, Centos, RedHat and Ubuntu, etc.
● Ability to develop and fix scripts in multiple shell environments such as tcsh or bash
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Cheyenne, WY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
