Govt. Recreation - Events Worker - Closes: 08-25-2026
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Events Worker, under the direction of the Events Coordinator, is responsible for performing a range of activities related to events and programs, including performing skate patrol, handling skate rentals, assisting with recreational activities during youth programs and events. The position is also responsible for assisting with the setting-up and tearing down events, acting as a cashier, performing office support and assisting with cleaning of the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
- Performs Skate Patrol duties.
- Enforces rules of the ice.
- Assists with skate rental.
- Ensures cleanliness of skate rental area.
- Identifies maintenance needs for rental skates.
- Summons medical attention as needed.
- Ensures proper handling of infectious bodily fluids.
- Acts a cashier in various facility departments.
- Assists with recreational activities during youth programs and events.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
- Works in other areas of the facility such as reception and concession areas as needed.
- Assists with cleaning of facility as needed.
- All other job-related duties as assigned.
CONTACTS:
Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, customers and outside vendors/service providers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position has lifting of 50 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant walking, reaching, manual handling, use of hearing, smell, near/midrange/far vision, depth perception, color/field of vision, bending; frequent standing, stooping; occasional pushing/pulling, climbing, kneeling and typing. Working conditions include frequent exposure to extreme cold and noise and occasional exposure to weather, extreme heat, wet/humidity and vibration and air quality. Potential hazards include constant client contact; frequent equipment use; occasional exposure to chemicals, insecticides/pesticides, infectious exposure, exposure to needles/syringes, computer and equipment use.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one-year experience working in customer relations position required.
Certification/License: Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must comply with the Sault Tribe’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy which may include random drug tests.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to skate preferred. Must have excellent public relations/customer service skills and be able to exhibit friendly and positive attitude and establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors and guests. Knowledge of First Aid and CPR required. Knowledge of or ability to learn rules of the ice required. Knowledge of facility policies and procedures preferred. Must be able to work evenings, weekends and some holidays. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be able to work with minimal to no supervision. Must be able to respond to difficult and stressful situations in an efficient, effective and positive manner. Native American preferred.
