The Role:

We are looking for an expert Sr Design Release Engineer - Lidar to join our team and help us build the best automated vehicles in the world.

Lead the development testing of a new Lidar supplier to meet the future needs of next generation automated driving program. Responsible for resolving technical challenges while meeting cost targets.

In addition to the development of the component, they will also facilitate the integration of the associated hardware and software into the vehicle architecture. They will lead regular product development team (PDT) meetings and be responsible for meeting development milestones.

Theoretical and practical knowledge of Lidar and optical sensors is required. Operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy, administering and coordinating programs, counseling and advising management.


As a fully-qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems.


Resolve highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research.
Recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.

What You'll Do:

DRE for Lidar including all elements of hardware and calibrations

System level understanding of functionality being supported, including ability to root cause issues

Capable of organizing and driving design for manufacturing initiatives

Develops component technical specifications as well as statement of requirements and subsystem technical specifications as required

Leads formal design, peer, and quality reviews

Leads resolution of technical issues

Leads product development team meetings

Leads/manages supplier resident engineers

Works closely with the Purchasing organization to support sourcing activities

Supports vehicle Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) activities

Primary GM engineering interface with the component suppliers

Knowledge of hardware and software interfaces

Ensure all vehicle program imperatives (cost, timing, investment, and quality) are met

Generates technical solutions for current, new and major programs

Provides technical leadership for advanced technology development and can perform complex design and packaging analysis

Develops engineering designs (including subsystems) and implements engineering changes

Initiates document to provide engineering approval and to maintain math data

Works with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs

Plans and implements validation and/or development programs

Releases parts and subsystems for production

Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations

Coordinates and consults with departments outside engineering, such as manufacturing

Your Skills & Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science, or Chemistry and 3+ years of engineering experience in a related field

Working Knowledge of Matlab/Python/C++ experience

High level of oral and written communication skills

Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of computer/electrical mechanisms

Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required

Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals

High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex

High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge:

Master’s/PhD Degree in Engineering

5+ years of development experience with Lidar or other Optical sensors or similar systems is highly preferred.

Automotive safety critical electronics experience
