Location: Warren, MI
Summary:
The Heat Treat Operator will be responsible for performing various operations within the Heat Treat area as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform light maintenance tasks to ensure furnaces are ready for processing work orders (confined space work will be outsourced to a vendor). Maintenance duties include keeping flow scopes in good condition and conducting minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs, such as replacing heating elements.
- Read and interpret work tickets generated in the lab.
- Group parts to be processed together as needed.
- Prepare loads for furnace processing, either manually or using a hoist.
- Use a roller cart to transfer trays with parts to the furnaces and load them into the furnaces.
- Set furnace cycles, including times and atmospheres, and monitor each furnace's progress during the cycle.
- After the cycle is completed, unload parts and return them to their original containers.
- Copper plate small parts (e.g., retainers) through progressive tank dipping on the plating line, and strip the copper after the cycle is finished.
- Charge and discharge the chromizing furnace once a day, which involves loosening and re-tightening 8 bolts on each of the two chromizing furnaces.

- Occasionally place parts in a -100°F freezer.
- Perform shot peening on retainers.

- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Requirements
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- For smaller parts (less than 10 lbs.), tasks are repetitive, such as placing parts in and out of containers and heat treat baskets.

- Occasionally, more physical effort is needed when pushing or pulling loads on the roller cart and shifting them in and out of furnaces.
- Unbolting and bolting eight bolts on the chrome furnace access doors requires force and is done one to two times daily, as the heat/cool cycle lasts 24 hours.
