Gift Shop Specialist
Under the direction of the Gift Shop Supervisor, the Gift Shop Specialist greets and assists customers, maintain an organized and clean store, stock/restock inventory, process sales transactions, and provide exceptional customer service.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys interacting with people, has a passion for sales and customer service, has a great eye for understanding retail best practices, has a knack for visually displaying merchandise to optimize sales, and is interested in joining a large healthcare system.
Essential Duties:
- Greet customers as they enter the shop, provide them with excellent customer service, and assist them with finding items and making purchase decisions.
- Arrange and display merchandise to optimize visual appeal and assist in creating attractive displays for seasonal and promotional events.
- Help maintain the shop's environment through organization, cleaning, dusting, etc. as needed.
- Assist in receiving and unpacking merchandise shipments; restock merchandise as needed; monitor and report any issues with merchandise quality and/or stock shortages.
- Collaborate with team members and volunteers to achieve sales targets and promotional upselling.
- Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale system.
- Keep track of inventory levels and notify the Gift Shop Coordinator when supplies run low.
- Provide information to customers about the philanthropic purpose of the gift shop.
- Support the needs of and work collaboratively with gift shop volunteers.
- Handle customer complaints and inquiries professionally and courteously.
- Follow all hospital policies and procedures, including cash handling, security, and safety.
- Reinforce and model a supportive culture of positive customer service and excellence.
- Treat all people with respect and dignity.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
General Requirements: None
Work Experience: Minimum one year of retail experience. Previous retail or customer service experience - preferred. Experience working with Volunteers - preferred. Experience within a healthcare system - preferred. Experience using a point-of-sale system - preferred.
Education: High school diploma or GED. Associate's Degree in Business, Finance, or Hospitality - preferred.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. Basic math skills for handling transactions and making change. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work evenings and weekends is required. Positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic computer skills. Develop and maintain positive relationships. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task. Ability to make decisions independently. Schedule flexibility M-F with primary availability of evenings and at least one weekend day. Ability to lift 25 pounds.
