POSITION TITLE: Adjunct Instructor – Political Science
REPORTS TO: VP of Academics
POSITION TYPE: Part-Time, Contractor (EduStaff)
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $50.00/Contact Hour

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Glen Oaks Community College is seeking qualified Adjunct Instructors to teach Political Science (online) for the Summer 2026 semester.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for the effective instruction and facilitation of student learning, demonstrating a strong commitment to student recruitment, retention, and success. The role includes meaningful assessment of learning, curriculum development, and the use of diverse instructional delivery methods incorporating both traditional and non-traditional approaches.

1. Teach assigned courses—which may include day, evening, online, main campus, or extension site offerings—and ensure all classes meet on time for the full scheduled duration.
2. Establish and maintain an engaging, student-centered learning environment that maximizes measurable student learning outcomes.
3. Prepare, submit, and maintain all reports associated with student learning, as required by the institution.
4. Evaluate student assignments in a constructive and meaningful manner that supports ongoing growth; return graded work in a timely fashion; and submit accurate final grades in accordance with institutional deadlines.
5. Offer educational assistance during regularly scheduled and posted office hours or by appointment to support student learning and success.
6. Promote completion of student opinion surveys for each class and review available summary results to identify opportunities for improving student success.
7. Sustain professional knowledge and expertise, including completion of all required compliance training and professional development hours.
8. Perform additional duties as assigned in support of departmental and institutional goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master's degree in discipline, including a minimum of 18 graduate‑level credit hours in the specific instructional area.
2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including individuals representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures.
3. Experience with instructional technology is preferred.
4. College‑level teaching experience is preferred.
