Staff Accountant
Position Summary
BB&E is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant with strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience across the full accounting cycle within a professional services firm. The position is full-time, onsite at our Northville, MI headquarters, and reports directly to the Accounting Manager.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Review and reconcile general ledger activity monthly to ensure proper coding, accuracy, and completeness
- Prepare, analyze, and post monthly journal entries
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle, from voucher package through payment
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes
- Ensure transactions are recorded timely and in compliance with GAAP
- Maintain and update the department’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Learn and utilize the Deltek Ajera system for accounting tasks
- Collaborate with team members to support timely, accurate financial reporting
- Post daily cash receipts
- Prepare reports and documentation for the external accounting firm during the annual financial review and tax return preparation
- Support additional accounting and business needs as assigned
- Gain exposure to additional roles as responsibilities are successfully completed

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Customer service mindset and ability to support both finance and non-finance staff
Software
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat
- Experience with project-based ERP systems preferred
Experience & Education
- Previous accounting or internship experience beneficial but not required (entry-level role)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time.
- Ability to talk or hear, both in person and by telephone.
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand; understand the speech of another person; talk or hear both in person and by telephone; and see details of objects that are more than a few feet away.
