Line Cook

Summary of Position:

Comfort Zone Cigar Lounge & Bristo is looking for a line cook that will, accurately and efficiently cook meats, fish, vegetables, soups and other hot food products as well as prepare and portion food products prior to cooking. Also perform other duties in the areas of food and final plate preparation including plating and garnishing of cooked items and preparing appropriate garnishes for all hot menu item plates.

Job Responsibilities:

• Sets up and stocks food items and other necessary supplies.
• Prepares food items by cutting, chopping, mixing, and preparing sauces.
• Cooks food items by grilling, frying, sautéing, and other cooking methods to specified recipes and standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and complies with food sanitation requirements by properly handling food and ensuring correct storage.
• Cleans and sanitizes cooking surfaces at the end of the shift.
• Performs inventory checks and completes food storage logs.

Qualifications/Skills:

• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Must be able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room personnel
• Organizational skills
• Accuracy and speed in executing tasks
• Ability to work as a team member
• Follows directions and instructions
• Must be 21 years or older
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Must be able to stand, bend, kneel and walk for long periods of time
• Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds
• Must be able to follow printed recipes and plate specifications
• Must maintain personal hygiene in accordance to Ingham County Health Department standards for Food Service Employees.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED
• One to two years of experience as a line cook, restaurant cook, or prep cook
• Certificate in Culinary Arts preferred
• Experience with various cooking methods and procedures
• Familiar with industry best practices

Work Environment

Work environment has loud noise, many people including staff and customers, and temperatures range from cold to hot. Work with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment as well as operates phones, computers, fax machines, copiers, and other office equipment.
