Senior Object Avoidance Capability Engineer
Description
We are looking for a Senior Systems Capability Engineer to help us lead the development and integration of automated driving technologies. In this position you will have the opportunity to work at the intersection of hardware, software and the driver to define, develop and execute the features that help improve the driving experience and move us towards our goal of zero crashes. The capability engineer works on both sides of the development V, defining how we would like the features to operate and getting in the vehicles to ensure performance is correct. You will need to apply technical understanding, critical reasoning and a structured approach to problem solving that supports the fast pace of ADAS development.
This position requires an employee to be onsite 3 days per week but does allow for flexibility between GM sites, understanding that some of that time is required to be in Milford Proving Grounds.
Responsibilities Include:
Participate in or lead a multi-functional development team with software, system engineering, product management, program management and key hardware partners to ensure alignment with peers and downstream customers
Analyze and negotiate requirements with internal and external stakeholders throughout product development and integration. Focus on Feature performance and lead technical solutions.
Be the hands-on end to end capability owner that will test and integrate System and Feature level capabilities utilizing simulation and vehicles.
Triage and analyze test data from simulation and vehicle testing to guide development prioritization and requirement refinement.
Test case formation responsible to enable a validation test plan that is traced back to the feature requirements.
Effective communication of issues and support the ability to solve problems and prioritize/balance workload as they arise
Apply technical understanding, critical reasoning and a structured approach to solving problems
Ability to handle agile development approach, making quick changes that enable solutions to get to the customer
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, Computer Science or work equivalent experience
Minimum of 2-4 years of engineering experience working with complex electro-mechanical systems
Minimum of 5 years of technical/engineering experience
Understanding of active safety systems, vehicle performance and automated driving technology
Ability to handle multiple priorities while meeting deliverables
Ability to identify problems, analyze varying courses of action, negotiate efficient solutions, and implement contingency plans
Strong technical and non-technical communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in engineering
Experience with the development of automotive safety or convenience features
Experience with ADAS systems
Knowledge of computer software used in Automotive engineering and tools used for data collection
Performance integration or validation background
Consistent record of dealing with complex problems that require systems thinking to find efficient solutions.
Virtualization/Simulation Development
Performance integration or validation background
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
