Work Schedule: Ally designates roles as (1) fully on-site, (2) hybrid, or (3) fully remote. Hybrid roles are generally expected to be in the office a certain number of days per week as indicated by your manager. The Opportunity

This role is on a hybrid schedule in our Detroit office in office weekly with some remote days.

We’re seeking an Analyst, Payroll (Employee Care) payroll experience to support payroll processing and the audit/management of tax activities in partnership with our third-party provider. This role helps ensure payroll and tax outcomes are timely, accurate, compliant—and delivers a strong customer-service mindset that supports a positive employee experience through responsive, clear, and professional communication.

The Work Itself

  • Manage and resolve ServiceNow Cases within established SLA Timelines, ensuring timely communication and a strong employee experience.
  • Support tax-related process documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create and support recurring and ad-hoc payroll and payroll accounting queries.
  • Research and resolve pre-conversion/historical tax issues, including audit research and response.
  • Drive issue resolution by identifying root cause, recommending improvements, and supporting required system/process changes.
  • Liaise with tax jurisdictions to understand issues, route to the appropriate owner, and follow through to resolution.
  • Coordinate with the vendor on unemployment claims management and garnishment cases.
  • Partner with the Global Payroll Accounting team to resolve tax-related reconciliation questions and issues.
  • Participate in year-end planning and W-2 preparation, coordinating vendor requirements and timelines.
  • Audit and support quarterly tax filings.
  • Audit employee tax setup in the HRIS and validate accurate translation to withholding with the payroll vendor.
  • Provide backup payroll processing coverage as needed.
  • Support Workday payroll processing, including on-cycle and off-cycle payrolls/checks.

The Skills You Bring

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1 year of experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of payroll experience in multi-company, multi-state environment, including experience supporting payroll tax activities and compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll (on-cycle and off-cycle).
  • Experience with ADP SmartCompliance (or similar tax compliance platform).
  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax setup, withholding, filings, and reconciliation practices.
  • Proven ability to manage vendor relationships and coordinate across internal teams
  • Strong auditing, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and follow-through.
  • Strong customer service skills, including clear verbal and professional written communication.
  • Ability to be cross-trained and provide backup support for payroll processing as needed.
  • MS Excel, pivot tables/v-lookups highly preferred.

Base Pay Range : $55000 - $95000 USD

An individual's position in the range is determined by the specific role, the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education, certification(s), training, and additional qualifications. We review internal pay, the competitive market, and business environment prior to extending an offer.

Incentive Compensation: This position is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan.
