Position SummaryThe Golf Course Superintendent – Summit is responsible for the overall maintenance, conditioning, and presentation of the Summit Golf Course. This leadership role oversees turf management operations, staff, equipment, and agronomic planning to ensure high-quality playing conditions. The Superintendent plays a critical role in long-term turf health, resource management, budgeting, and team development while enhancing the overall guest experience.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesOversee daily maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and roughs
Develop and execute seasonal agronomic plans to support turf health and playability
Lead, hire, train, and schedule maintenance staff
Manage and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient water usage
Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and pesticide regulations
Manage department budget, labor tracking, and equipment inventory
Coordinate with golf operations and resort leadership on events and course conditions
Monitor weather conditions and adjust maintenance plans accordingly
Maintain high standards of course presentation and playability
Degree or certificate in Agronomy, Turf Management, or related field
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a superintendent or assistant superintendent
Valid Michigan Pesticide Applicator’s License (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
Strong knowledge of turfgrass science, irrigation systems, and equipment
Experience as a superintendent at a public or resort golf facility
Experience managing cool-season grasses in northern climates
Knowledge of environmentally sustainable golf course practices
Strong leadership and team management skills
Excellent organizational and planning abilities
Expertise in agronomy and turf management practices
Financial acumen and budget management skills
Problem-solving and adaptability in changing conditions
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Primarily outdoor work in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions
Requires early mornings, weekends, and seasonal schedule flexibility
Involves physical activity including walking, standing, and equipment operation
Exposure to chemicals, fertilizers, and maintenance equipment
