CNC Operations Lead

Full-Time | On-Site | Roseville, MI

Shift: 1st Shift (Monday–Friday)

Pay Range: $30–$40 per hour , depending on experience and capabilities

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled CNC Operations Lead to support our machining department by combining hands-on technical expertise with strong leadership. This role involves programming, machine setup, directing operators, and helping manage workflow throughout the shop. The ideal candidate has deep machining knowledge, and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

CNC Programming & Setup

• Create CNC programs using CAM software

• Set up CNC mills and lathes for production and prototype jobs

• Optimize tooling, workholding, and machining strategies

• Troubleshoot setup or machining issues to maintain quality and efficiency

Leadership & Team Support

• Serve as the primary point of assistance for machine operators

• Assign jobs based on priority and machine availability

• Communicate daily objectives and support a smooth workflow

Job Tracking & Workflow

• Assist with routing and releasing jobs to the shop floor

• Track job progress to ensure deadlines are met

• Identify bottlenecks and collaborate with management to solve them

• Ensure correct documentation and inspection steps are followed

Shipping / Receiving

• Oversee incoming and outgoing shipments related to jobs

• Verify received materials, tooling, and components against purchase orders

• Coordinate with vendors and couriers for deliveries and pickups

• Ensure all shipped jobs are properly packaged, labeled, documented, and delivered on time

• Maintain a clean and organized shipping/receiving area

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Review prints, models, and GD&T prior to machining

• Monitor part quality and ensure adherence to tight tolerances

• Recommend improvements to tooling, fixturing, and machining processes

• Help maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized shop environment

Qualifications

Required

• 10+ years CNC machining and setup experience

• CAM programming experience (any major platform)

• Strong understanding of G-code, tooling, and machining fundamentals

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T

• Demonstrated leadership or mentoring ability

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Preferred

• Experience in a job-shop or prototype machining environment

• Familiarity with mills, lathes, and grinders

• Experience with inspection equipment

• Ability to manage shifting priorities in a high-mix shop
