HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR

Location: Holland, MI 49423. This is an onsite role.
Shift: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday
Compensation: Will be discussed during the interview

Position Summary

The HR Director at Hudsonville Ice Cream (HIC) is a key strategic leader responsible for shaping a high‑performing, people‑first organization. Reporting to the CHRO, this role oversees core HR functions—including talent acquisition, employee relations, talent management, compliance and culture—while partnering closely with senior leadership. The HR Director helps ensure HIC remains a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and inspired to do their best work.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the CHRO to develop and execute an HR strategy aligned with HIC business goals and values.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders on organizational design, workforce planning, and talent strategy.
  • Lead and support change‑management initiatives that drive growth, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Culture & Employee Experience

  • Champion the Hudsonville Way and foster the culture of teamwork, integrity and community involvement.
  • Build and enhance programs that strengthen employee engagement, recognition, and retention.
  • Ensure consistent communication and connection between leadership, production teams, and corporate staff.

Talent Acquisition & Development

  • Oversee full‑cycle recruiting for hourly manufacturing roles through senior leadership positions.
  • Implement talent development programs, leadership training, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with operations to maintain a strong pipeline of skilled manufacturing talent.

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Lead HR operations including onboarding, performance management, benefits administration, and HRIS optimization.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and Michigan employment laws, food‑industry regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
  • Maintain HR metrics and dashboards to support data‑driven decision‑making.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Oversee competitive compensation structures for hourly and salaried roles.
  • Evaluate and enhance benefits offerings to support employee well‑being and retention.
  • Manage annual performance review and merit processes.

Employee Relations

  • Foster a fair, respectful, and supportive workplace environment.
  • Provide guidance on conflict resolution, coaching, and corrective action.
  • Partner with supervisors and plant leadership to manage for positive employee relations by maintaining strong employee relationships and consistent HR practices.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree or HR certification (SHRM‑CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR) preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, ideally in manufacturing and/or food production.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and workforce development.
  • Success building culture, leading teams, and partnering with executives.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on process optimization and problem-solving.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effectively communicate (written and verbal) with the appropriate sense of urgency.

Physical Requirements

  • Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an standard office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate (up to 20 pounds) amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; may be required to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
  • The ability to see normally, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision with or without correction.
  • Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
