DIRECTOR / CLINICAL SERVICES
The director of clinical services plays a key leadership role in the growth of the College of Medicine ( CMED ) by overseeing the daily support needs at CMED’s on campus clinical sites. Reporting to the dean of the college of medicine, the director will serve as a principal on-site liaison between clinical providers and staff and CMED leadership, handling various areas of responsibility.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in health care administration, public health, or business administration.
Two years of experience in health care operations.
Two years of supervisory experience.
Demonstrated understanding of clinical management metrics and reporting.
Strong healthcare management skills.
Demonstrated financial management skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a complex health care environment.
Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and develop creative solutions to challenging problems.
Demonstrated team-oriented leadership style.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree, preferably in health care administration, public health, or business administration.
Experience in business planning.
Experience in non-healthcare related strategic planning in academic medicine.
Experience with electronic medical records systems.
Knowledge of the local health care setting.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversees the administrative and financial operations of the College of Medicine’s clinical operations.
Supervises the office professionals, clinical support staff, and the coordinator of revenue cycle services, and has operational oversite of the providers within the Mt. Pleasant clinical locations. This supervision includes all registration, clinical operations, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, professional development, and certification/license verification functions.
Develops and executes administrative policies and procedures to maintain the effective functioning of all CMED clinical sites.
Works collaboratively with the leadership, faculty, and staff of CMED and CMU offices to ensure compliance with existing University policies and procedures.
Ensures adherence to the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care ( AAAHC ) metrics and standards for CMU Student Health Services and Behavioral Health Services accreditation; this includes, but is not limited to continuous quality improvement ( CQI ) studies and initiatives, peer review processes, infection control and risk programming, patient safety initiatives, facilities, equipment, and emergency management.
Oversees and tracks credentialing items for clinical support staff, and providers: (i.e. Medical Licensure, DEA , Controlled Substances Licenses, Basic Life Support, Delineation of Privileges).
Assists with coordination and supports the operations and interfaces between CMED and other campus based clinical departments and centers.
Directs all billing and collections for all services across CMU including third party payer, contractual allowance etc.; this includes maintaining accurate contract information and all reimbursement current.
Collaborates with both campus administration and CMED leadership in developing processes and controls that are in compliance with regulatory requirements related to clinical/clinical trial research activity.
Develops, mentors, and manages an appropriate leadership structure to support excellent operational results and clinical growth.
Defines the operational dashboard to monitor productivity, quality, efficiency, and financial metrics for clinical and other non-academic operations.
Oversees and manages the operating budgets for Mt. Pleasant clinical sites, executing and reconciling clinical PO’s, BPO’s, cost center changes, and credit card charges.
Participates in the development of CMED -based marketing material, with the goal of promoting campus health services for students, faculty, and staff at campus events and orientations.
Evaluates and recommends lease and contract renewals impacting clinical operations (e.g. third-party lab services, DME ) in conjunction with CMU’s contracting and purchasing office.
Liaises with a third party platform, as well as providers and staff regarding patient satisfaction surveys (ensuring patient satisfaction is high) to provide guidance and training as needed when resolving patient complaints. This includes providing patient satisfaction survey data to providers/staff monthly.
Resolves patient complaints, concerns, and dissatisfaction.
Provides monthly reports to providers indicating budget to actual charges, wRVU’s, open encounters, patient satisfaction, quality metrics, and coding precision.
Works closely with the HIPAA Privacy Officer to ensure HIPAA violations or potential violations are mitigated, and HIPAA Risk Assessments are completed.
Serves as the point person to facilitate and troubleshoot all EPIC EMR updates, workflow efficiencies, and EMR requests.
Oversees the department’s daily staffing requirements, approving and operationalizing requested time off for office professionals, clinical support staff, and providers.
Orients and completes onboarding for providers and staff to their position responsibilities, ensuring a skills appropriate orientation and procedural training plan is completed. This includes providing leadership in clinical and administrative onboarding, as needed.
Manages clinical space logistics, clinical inventory, and control. This includes overseeing ordering, invoice processing, and cost center management for all administrative and clinical supplies, medications, pharmaceuticals, and equipment.
Ensures department activities are documented, and records are kept in adherence to appropriate licensing and regulatory requirements.
Participates in discussions related to capital equipment recommendations and decisions.
Serves as primary emergency infection/disease liaison, reporting responsibilities between the health department (or others) and Central Michigan University.
Coordinates efforts with CMED and CMU HR regarding Family Medical Leave, ensuring documentation, return to work clearance, restrictions and/or extensions are communicated and reported.
Manages and compiles data for the advanced practice providers incentive program.
Coordinates and schedules in-services, clinical skills training, or regulation training as needed or necessary.
Approves, tracks, and reconciles Continuing Medical Education/Professional Development ( CME /PD) funds for office professionals, clinical support staff, and providers.
