Department Clerk
- Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a General Clerk or related clerical experience Required Licenses or Certifications
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
- Possession of an Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in general business or related field
- Word, Excel, Internet, E-mail and other related software
- Department of Roads regulations as it relates to the assigned department
- Record keeping techniques and practices
- Office terminology, procedures, equipment and business arithmetic
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
- Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
- Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios
- Tracking inventory and ordering supplies when needed
- Answering multi-line phones and using radio communication system
- Prepare and analyze time cards, input time cards data into Precision
- Make decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established policies and procedures
- Understand and follow complex written and oral directions
- Work independent of supervision
- Operate personal computers utilizing current versions of office related programs, email and other software
- Keep records, maintain data entry and prepare reports
- Work in an environment which embraces the county's Dignity Campaign
- Effectively speak, write and understand the English language
- Effectively speak, write and understand a language other than English is preferred
- Understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions
- Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
- Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries
- Work independently
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, Administrators, Department Heads, staff, union officials and the public
- Conduct oneself with diplomacy, tact and courtesy
