Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

• Location: South Bend, IN 46601 (Indiana nursing jobs)
• Unit: 7th Floor Intermediate Cardiac/Stroke Unit
• Employment Type: Locum Tenens / Travel Nursing Contract
• Start Date: September 15, 2025
• End Date: December 15, 2025
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts/week (07:00 - 19:30)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1890 - $1940
• Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Charting System: Cerner
• Scrub Colors: Royal Blue or White

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or compact state (pending accepted if active prior to start)
• Minimum 1 year of recent cardiac stepdown or telemetry nursing experience (2 years preferred)
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications (pending accepted if active prior to start)
• Proficient in cardiac rhythm interpretation and management of cardiac drips (Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix)
• Experience with stroke care and telemetry patients
• Ability to float to similar or lower acuity units as needed
• Must pass Tele Rhythm Identification Quiz
• Experience with Cerner electronic charting preferred
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of South Bend, Indiana

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in an intermediate cardiac/stroke unit
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, respond to dysrhythmias, and manage cardiac drips (no titration required)
• Care for patients with diagnoses such as stroke, CHF, chest pain, myocardial infarction (MI), syncope, hypertension, and overdose
• Support patients requiring hemodialysis (performed by external provider) and all oxygenation modes except ventilators
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response
• Float to similar or lower acuity units within the hospital as needed
• Complete required orientation and pre-start modules (up to 8 hours)
