GSRP Teacher - Early Childhood

Summary/Objective:
Oakland Early Learning Center must provide an excellent education to all of our students consistent with the mission, vision, and goals of the center and with the core values of Summit Management Consulting. The GSRP lead teacher is responsible for working as a team member in providing a quality educational program for preschool children by planning, assessing, and instructing 4-year-old students. The position includes maintaining required records to ensure grant compliance and meet licensing guidelines. The lead teacher promotes a collaborative relationship with families.

Responsibilities:
  • Implement developmentally-appropriate instruction for children using research-based curriculum.
  • Implement Positive Behavior Intervention (PBIS).
  • Follow the daily schedule as outlined in the curriculum and GSRP guidelines.
  • Conduct screening and ongoing assessment of children.
  • Meet with Early Childhood Specialist to ensure quality programming.
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and other scheduled program activities.
  • Collaborate with the associate teacher in planning, team meetings and decision-making.
  • Empower the associate teacher to support classroom instruction.
  • Participate in home visits to meet the educational needs of all children.
  • Organize and maintain records for grant and licensing purposes.
  • Create and update anecdotal records and portfolios for each child.
  • Complete required progress reports and other paperwork.
  • Participate in district recruitment efforts, including open houses and round-ups.
  • Maintain inventory of classroom equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Schedule and implement parent/family activities.
  • Provide informational materials for families.
  • Work flexible hours as needed for family involvement activities, including home visits, recruitment events, open house(s).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


General Expectations:

  • You are directly accountable to the VP of School Growth. As a member of the Oakland Early Learning Center Leadership team you are also expected to communicate and coordinate with the school office personnel and collaborate with your fellow teachers. As a Summit Management Consulting LLC employee you will be expected to:
    • Conduct yourself in a professional manner – demonstrating competence in your area of responsibilities and extending respect and courtesy to coworkers. This position is one that demands an exceptional attendance routine, including consistently arriving early to set the tone for the day along with staying after to plan or support students.
    • Adhere to all Oakland Early Learning Center employee policies as well as expectation as outlined in the handbooks located on the intranet. We will supply a hard copy to you upon request.
    • Conduct yourself in accordance with the mission, vision, and goals of Oakland Early Learning Center, as well as the core values of Summit Management. This will foster mutually beneficial relationships and promote a spirit of excellence in our endeavors.

Required Experience and Education:

  • Applicants must hold a valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood – General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement.
  • Birth-K, or PK-3 endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with a specialization preschool teaching.


Preferences:
The teacher will be required to follow a curriculum to instruct children in developmental skills. It is important to prepare children to become successful students that socialize and interact with each other. A great pre-school teacher should possess the ability to understand small children and find teaching them a pleasure. Patience, perseverance, excellent communication, interpersonal skills, a calm nature and kindness are required.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a classroom environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and projectors.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment has a raised noise level.
