ASSISTANT DIRECTOR/SOCIAL MEDIA
The assistant director of social media works within the University Communications team to manage the daily operations of CMU’s social media channels. This role is responsible for executing and assessing strategies developed by the associate director of social media, including content development, scheduling and posting content, stakeholder engagement and social listening, and analysis of post performance. The assistant director also plays a key role in supporting CMU’s social media communities, including moderation and management functions in various online groups, as well as support for campus partner channels.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in public relations, communications, marketing or a related field.
Two year of professional experience preferably in public relations, social media and/or marketing communications.
Experience developing and implementing organic and paid social media strategies.
Strong writing skills with experience writing social media content, internal communications, etc. and telling stories across multiple channels.
Solid grasp of social media strategy and public relations practices.
Ability to creatively communicate across a variety of media.
Knowledge of existing and emerging social media channels and trends.
Strong attention to detail and knowledge of AP style.
Experience working in cross-functional teams to complete projects.
Demonstrable leadership skills.
Exemplary interpersonal, critical thinking, problem-solving and organizational skills.
Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines.
Passion for learning.
Experience in higher education.
Experience working with social posting programs such as HubSpot, HootSuite, Agorapulse, Sprout Social, etc.
General understanding of digital marketing best practices.
Experience working with data analytics programs, such as Google Analytics.
Executes CMU social media strategy by developing campaigns, gathering information, writing and creating platform-appropriate content for CMU’s main social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn and TikTok.
Ensures consistency of brand voice, tone, language and visual elements in all content.
Manages daily operations of all channels, including scheduling and approving posts, community management and social listening.
Monitors platform chatter for opportunities to minimize reputational risk, as well as opportunities to engage with stakeholders to increase positive perception of CMU .
With direction from the associate director, researches and develops best practice guidelines and resource documents to support CMU campus partner channels.
Provides leadership and direction to social media moderators in the CMU Facebook groups for students, parents/families and supporters.
Participates in cross-functional teams and campus-partner meetings to brainstorm, develops and assesses content and social strategies.
Assists in the development and delivery of campus partner trainings.
In partnership with the communications team, develops and maintains the annual editorial calendar.
