GENERAL SUMMARY
The Dean of Student Engagement, under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all aspects of student life at Glen Oaks Community College. This role is responsible for developing and sustaining programs, services, and initiatives that enhance student engagement, build community, and promote student success. The Dean oversees key areas including athletics, housing and residential life, student organizations, campus events and activities, and student conduct. This position works collaboratively across the institution to foster a positive and supportive campus environment. The Dean also plays a critical role in student accountability by upholding the Student Code of Conduct and participating in Title IX grievance procedures in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policy.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Work with the Student Services staff, student groups, faculty, and other members of the College community to develop co-curricular programming that supports student development. This includes student engagement programs and activities, student clubs and organizations, campus and community events, student leadership development initiatives, athletic activities, and social gatherings.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive student engagement plan aligned with the institution’s mission and goals.
- Measure the effectiveness of student engagement initiatives through surveys, focus groups, and data analysis. Use assessment results to improve programs and services.
- Foster a culture of student involvement in co-curricular activities, leadership development, and civic engagement.
- Oversee student organizations and ensure compliance with college policies and procedures.
- Annually review and maintain the Student Club and Organization Handbook.
- Regularly attend campus events, including evening and weekend activities.
- Uphold the student code of conduct, which includes investigating cases, conducting hearings, issuing disciplinary sanctions, and maintaining conduct records. Ensure consistency within student disciplinary processes.
- Educates students on campus policies and student rights and responsibilities.
- Work with the Vice President of Student Services to develop, implement, and review policies related to student conduct, student life, and other relevant areas.
- Analyze trends in campus misconduct and other areas of student life and propose strategies to address concerns.
- Annually review and make recommendations for the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
- Work in tandem with the Vice President of Student Services for administrative oversight of Title IX.
- Participate as a member of the Title IX Team, supporting compliance efforts and contributing to the investigation and adjudication of Title IX cases.
- Assist with the development of procedures and protocols for student emergencies or threat assessments.
- Serve as a primary advocate for students, ensuring their voices are heard in institutional decision-making.
- Monitor budget expenditures and requisitions for departments under student engagement.
- Supervise and evaluate professional staff and student workers, providing mentorship and professional development.
- Develop or assist in the development of policies, procedures, goals and objectives pertaining to student life. Implement accountability systems to ensure goals and objectives are met.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in student affairs, higher education administration, counseling, or a related field.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to manage budgets and oversee staff effectively.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a higher education setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctorate in higher education leadership or related field.
- Previous experience as a Dean within a Student Affairs Division.
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague and Maxient.
- Seven or more years of experience with progressive management responsibility in a higher education setting.
