Longhorn Energy
Muskegon, MI

Job Description

Job Description

We are looking for a highly organized and motivated Shop Manager to oversee the daily operations of our heavy truck and equipment repair facility. In this crucial leadership position, you will manage a talented team of diesel and heavy equipment technicians, coordinate shop workflow and scheduling, and ensure accountability for quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. This role presents an outstanding opportunity for an experienced professional who excels in a hands-on setting and is prepared to provide strong leadership, technical expertise, and operational discipline to a team dedicated to delivering exceptional results on the first attempt.

● Oversee day-to-day shop operations including scheduling, workflow management, and overall productivity to ensure efficient and timely service delivery.

● Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of diesel and heavy equipment technicians, fostering a culture of accountability, skill development, and teamwork.

● Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed accurately, safely, and on time — upholding the shop's standards for quality workmanship.

● Manage parts ordering, inventory control, and vendor relationships to minimize downtime and control costs.

● Monitor and report on shop performance metrics including technician efficiency, productivity, and overall profitability.

● Ensure full compliance with all applicable safety regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies at all times.

● Communicate proactively with customers regarding repair status, estimates, and timelines, delivering a professional and trustworthy service experience.

● Review and approve repair orders, invoices, and related documentation for accuracy and completeness.

● Recruit, hire, train, and develop shop personnel in alignment with organizational needs and growth objectives.

● Coordinate with senior management on budgets, operational forecasting, and capital equipment needs.

● Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment that reflects pride of ownership and commitment to professionalism.

● Resolve technician and customer issues promptly and professionally, escalating when appropriate to ensure lasting solutions.

Requirements

● Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in heavy truck and/or heavy equipment repair.

● Minimum 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role within a repair shop or similar industrial environment.

● Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, and related heavy equipment systems.

● Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of technicians in a fast-paced, high-volume shop environment.

● Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with a strong attention to detail and follow-through.

● Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, wiring schematics, and repair orders.

● Strong communication skills — both verbal and written — with the ability to effectively interface with shop staff and customers alike.

● Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

● Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Benefits

● Competitive Salary: $50,000 – $75,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

● Paid holidays.

● Paid vacation time.

● Health insurance reimbursement program
