The Opportunity
General Motors is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to develop software and contribute to technical solutions within their team in Vehicle Applications and Services. The role will work hand in hand with various GM software development teams and GM global teams on product development and launch.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will collaborate, inspire, and contribute to a small highly engaged team to develop, deliver and maintain the next generation infotainment platform, applications, products and tools on time, on budget with quality. You will provide software solutions and be part of a motivated team to fulfill department and company goals in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment. And you will also collaborate within and across groups and facilitate continuous improvement of engineering processes and operational efficiency for high quality products with ultimate customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Provide hands-on technical expertise on a variety of features and capabilities on the Vehicle Applications and Services
Participate in Requirements and Design Development meetings to ensure technical optimized system design and executable solutions
Represent your software components as Subject Matter Expert
Guide the design of the software components in your domain
Own the performance/KPI for your software components
Identify and deliver PoCs to drive forward the innovation within and across software components
Ensure adherence to the Infotainment Software TDD, CI/CD direction
Work with user experience and user interface design teams to building high quality features that make users love our products, leveraging your knowledge in Application Development using Android’s Material Design, Vehicle Data properties and communication protocols such as CAN
Champion writing code that is reliable, maintainable, and reusable because you have a thorough understanding of OOD principals
Mentor junior developers in software engineering and Android best practices by conducing code reviews, participating in technical review discussions, tutorials and hosting prototype sessions
Stay current with the latest Android platform capabilities and make relevant recommendations that improves our product and codebase
Collaborate and direct third-party software designs and development work to align with overall project objectives and timing
Participate in the hiring, coaching, development, and retention of competent and engaged team members to achieve personal, professional and corporate objectives.
Foster and maintain a positive and collaborative work environment to motivate and empower team members while driving for efficiency and innovative solutions
Identify and remove obstacles and ensure team knows the proper process, has the proper knowledge, training, and resources to accomplish assigned tasks
Be a valuable member of an energetic team that encourages sharing, caring and collaboration!
Qualifications
Required:
5+ years of experience developing and providing technical solutions for complex, real time, embedded software in an object-oriented environment (preferably native Android Apps & Services or Automotive)
8+ year of software development experience
Thorough understanding of OOP concepts, Android application architecture (e.g. Clean Code, MVP, MVVM), software design patterns and TDD
Experience in developing connected solutions or software components that communicate to back-office systems
Significant experience in all aspects of the software development life cycle/continuous integration, process, tools and good command of Agile Methodologies and Rituals
Hands on development experience with C++, Java, Kotlin, Android, embedded Linux/QNX.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Software Engineering

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
The selected candidate will be required to travel <25% for this role.
