Siemens CNC Controls Field Commissioning Engineer

EMAG - USA
Farmington, MI

Job Description

Job Description

Shape machine performance on the front lines

Imagine landing at a customer site on Monday, reviewing the machine’s schematics over a quick safety briefing, and then bringing a brand-new EMAG system to life. By midweek, you’re deep in TIA Portal, validating I/O, tuning drives, and optimizing SINUMERIK motion. On Friday, you’re training the maintenance crew, closing out buy-off, and writing a crisp service report before heading to your next challenge. If that rhythm excites you, this role is for you.

What you'll do
  • Install, commission, and validate EMAG machine tools and automation systems at customer sites across North America and abroad.
  • Diagnose and repair controls, electrical, and communication issues across PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, and motors using schematics, software diagnostics, and test equipment.
  • Configure and optimize Siemens platforms: SINUMERIK, SIMATIC PLCs, TIA Portal, STEP 7, WinCC, and Siemens drive technologies.
  • Own startup and bring-up: system verification, I/O checks, safety circuit validation, and operational testing.
  • Modify and debug PLC logic, HMI screens, machine parameters, and control configurations as needed.
  • Execute acceptance testing and support customer buy-off.
  • Deliver training to operators, maintenance, programmers, and engineers on operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
  • Provide remote technical support to customers and EMAG service teams.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Commissioning, Mechanical Service, and Customer Service to resolve complex issues.
  • Create thorough service documentation: findings, corrective actions, and recommendations.
  • Support upgrades, retrofits, control modernizations, and software enhancements.
  • Contribute to commissioning procedures, troubleshooting guides, and technical documentation improvements.
  • Work safely and in compliance with customer requirements and EMAG safety policies—always representing EMAG professionally.
Background that sets you up for success
  • Associate or Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Industrial Controls, or related preferred.
  • Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent industrial electrical experience may substitute for a degree.
  • 5+ years in industrial controls, machine tool service, automation, or electrical commissioning.
Core capabilities
  • Strong Siemens automation knowledge.
  • Fluent with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and technical documentation.
  • Track record troubleshooting CNC machinery, machine tools, robotics, and automated manufacturing systems.
  • Familiarity with Fanuc, Siemens, or comparable industrial control platforms.
  • Organized multitasker; calm under pressure; professional communicator; reliable team contributor or independent problem-solver.
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9001/14001 frameworks.
Technical proficiencies
  • PLC troubleshooting and programming
  • Industrial/manufacturing engineering concepts
  • Reading electrical schematics
  • 120/208/240/480 VAC systems
  • CNC machine installation
  • Electrical installation, equipment wiring
  • Debugging industrial automation equipment

  • Field service readiness
