A CT Technologist (also known as a CT Scan Technologist or Radiologic Technologist specializing in Computed Tomography ) is a healthcare professional who operates CT (Computed Tomography) scanners to capture detailed images of a patient's internal structures. These images are used by doctors to diagnose various conditions, such as cancers, infections, bone fractures, and other abnormalities. Openings in the Wayne, Livingston and Washtenaw County areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform CT Scans:
    • Operate and manage CT scanning equipment to produce detailed images of the body.
    • Ensure accurate imaging of the area being studied, whether its the head, chest, abdomen, or other parts of the body.
    • Work with patients to explain the procedure, reduce their anxiety, and ensure they remain still during the scan.
  2. Patient Care:
    • Prepare patients for CT scans by explaining the procedure, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
    • Position patients correctly to ensure the best possible images and minimize the need for repeat scans.
    • Monitor patients' comfort and safety throughout the procedure.
  3. Image Quality & Safety:
    • Ensure high-quality images are captured for diagnostic purposes by adjusting settings and equipment as needed.
    • Maintain and follow strict safety protocols to minimize exposure to radiation for both patients and staff.
    • Ensure that imaging equipment is functioning properly and request repairs or maintenance when needed.
  4. Collaboration with Medical Team:
    • Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other medical professionals to ensure proper diagnoses.
    • Provide clear and accurate patient data to radiologists for interpretation.
  5. Record Keeping & Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including details of the procedure and any special considerations (e.g., allergies to contrast material).
    • Document technical information related to imaging and patient care.
  6. Equipment Maintenance:
    • Perform routine checks and maintenance on CT scanners to ensure proper operation.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve minor technical issues or report problems to appropriate maintenance personnel.
  7. Follow Protocols:
    • Ensure all procedures adhere to hospital or clinical guidelines and regulatory standards.
    • Follow infection control protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  8. Administer Contrast Materials:
    • In some cases, CT technologists may be responsible for administering contrast material to help enhance the quality of the images.
    • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to contrast agents.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education : An Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology, with a certification or degree in CT imaging. A Bachelor Degree may be required for some advanced positions.
  • Licensing : CT Technologists to be licensed by LARA, and certification by a professional body the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)).

Skills :

  • Strong understanding of medical imaging equipment and technology.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to analyze and interpret images.
  • Good communication skills to work effectively with patients and medical staff.
  • Ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure, especially in emergency situations.
  • Physical stamina to assist patients and operate machinery for extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • CT Technologists typically work in hospitals, mobile units, outpatient clinics, imaging centers, or diagnostic laboratories.
  • The job may require working evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts, depending on the healthcare facilitys hours of operation.
  • The role may also involve some physical labor, such as helping patients into position, and working with heavy equipment.

Salary

  • The salary of a CT technologist can vary based on experience, location, and the type of healthcare facility average salary tends to be between $60,000 and $90,000 per year .

This role requires both technical skill and compassion, as the technologist plays an important part in ensuring that patients receive high-quality care while maintaining safety and comfort during diagnostic imaging procedures.
