Shop Hand

Durand, MI

Job Title: Shop Hand

Job Description

This role supports an automation and machine-building operation by assembling metal sheathing and metal frames using hand and power tools in a busy shop environment. You will contribute directly to the construction of equipment by performing hands-on tasks that require accuracy, safe tool handling, and consistent productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble metal sheathing and metal frames according to specifications and instructions.
  • Use hand and power tools, including grinders, impact drills, saws, and drivers, to complete daily tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Measure materials accurately using a tape measure to ensure precise cuts and proper fitment.
  • Assist with general shop tasks to support machine building and fabrication activities.
  • Handle and move materials and components as needed to keep production flowing.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including the proper use of steel-toe footwear and other required protective equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote safety and efficiency.
  • Work scheduled shifts of 10 hours per day, Monday through Friday, and support Saturday work as needed to meet production demands.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools such as grinders, impact drills, saws, and drivers.
  • Comfort working in a machine build or fabrication shop, construction environment, or similar hands-on setting.
  • Capability to pass a THC-based drug test as a condition of employment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely with tools and materials.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift materials, and perform manual tasks throughout a 10-hour shift.
  • Reliability in adhering to an early-morning start time and consistent weekday schedule.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in machine building or fabrication shops is highly relevant.
  • Experience as a mechanic, lube technician, or tire technician translates well to this role.
  • Experience as a construction laborer is beneficial and prepares you for the hands-on nature of the work.
  • Familiarity with shop practices, basic mechanical assembly, or industrial environments is an asset.

Why Work Here?

You will join a hands-on, production-focused environment where your practical skills directly contribute to building complex automation and machine systems. The role offers consistent full-time hours and opportunities to gain valuable experience with industrial tools, metal fabrication, and machine assembly. You will work alongside experienced trades and shop professionals, allowing you to grow your mechanical aptitude and broaden your experience in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.

Work Environment

This position is based in a shop that supports automation and machine-building activities. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with 10-hour workdays and occasional Saturdays as needed. The shop is not air conditioned, so you should be comfortable working in varying temperatures. You will work around metal components, fabrication equipment, and industrial tools, and you must wear steel-toe footwear as part of the required attire. The environment is active and production-driven, with a focus on safety, proper tool use, and teamwork.
