About Cox Consulting Agency

Cox Consulting Agency supports nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations in advancing grassroots initiatives through strategy, organizing, education, and capacity building. We specialize in turning ideas into impact — and cultivating leaders who are equipped to strengthen civic participation and equity-driven community change.

About the Political Advocacy Training Academy (PATA)

The Political Advocacy Training Academy (PATA) is a 16-week civic education program designed to equip high-school and young adult learners with the foundational skills of community organizing, advocacy, and civic leadership — and confidently see organizing as a viable career path.

Rooted in experiential learning, social-emotional development, and practical civic engagement, PATA explores:

  • How power operates within communities
  • The mechanics of advocacy and relational organizing
  • Effective communication and values-based messaging
  • Community mapping, field planning, and strategy development

Participants meet twice weekly for interactive workshops and hands-on activities. The experience culminates in a capstone project where learners design and present their own advocacy initiative or social impact proposal.

PATA is strictly nonpartisan. It promotes civic literacy, equity, and leadership — not political parties or candidates.

Position Overview

The Program Instructor will deliver PATA curriculum content in person to high-school–aged learners in Ypsilanti/Washtenaw County. This contractor role involves leading instruction, facilitating discussions, and supporting learners as they explore advocacy and community change.

This role may be filled by one instructor or shared between multiple contractors, depending on availability and consistent attendance capacity.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Facilitate highly engaging weekly instructional sessions following PATA curriculum
  • Support learners in completing assignments and capstone project development
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, curiosity-driven learning environment
  • Track basic attendance and participation for reporting purposes
  • Participate in instructor training and periodic check-ins with program leadership
  • Model professionalism, reliability, and accountability in all interactions

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working with youth or supporting leadership development
  • Reliable transportation to the training site in Washtenaw County
  • Commitment to full program delivery and consistent attendance

  • College coursework, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in organizing, teaching, youth engagement, or civic leadership
  • Prior involvement in community or advocacy programs
  • Compelling lived experience that aligns with program goals

Community-Focused Hiring Commitment

We value credible messengers who reflect the communities we serve.

However, due to school partner requirements:

Candidates unable to pass a background check are not eligible to contract as instructors at this time — but may instead be considered for a paid speaking opportunity to share lived experience and support participant learning.

We believe in second chances and know many experts were shaped by the very systems they now work to change.
