Memory Care Activities Director

Position Summary : The Memory Care Activities Director manages a team of Resident Assistants and serves as the dementia care expert in the community. They plan activities for residents with varying cognitive abilities, recruit volunteers, develop and execute Morning Pointe's Meaningful Day™ approach, and provide dementia care training to all associates.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the overall operations of Lantern Programming and create appropriate programming for residents with dementia.
  2. Present interactive memory care training.
  3. Address residents' complex dementia behaviors with an interdisciplinary team.
  4. Plan and conduct monthly caregiver support groups.
  5. Lead Lantern Program Weekly Review meetings.
  6. Maintain the department budget and ensure a safe environment.
  7. Complete resident profile forms and document participation in activities.
  8. Communicate with residents' families and responsible parties.
  9. Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for various activities.
  10. Maintain involvement in the local community and represent Morning Pointe.

Qualifications:

  1. Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  2. 2-3 years of experience in geriatric and memory care.
  3. State certification or ability to earn it within one year.
  4. Supervisory experience preferred.
  5. Teaching and training experience preferred.
  6. Additional certifications in dementia care or related areas are desirable.
  7. Valid driver's license and First Aid/CPR certification.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies.
  2. Meet general health requirements and perform physical tasks.
  3. Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Note: The job is classified as heavy physical demand, with frequent lifting and carrying of various objects.

Sitting

4 - 5 hours per 8 hour work shift. Alternates as needed to standing or walking.

Walking

1 - 2 hours per 8 hour work shift. Alternates to sitting on an occasional basis and to standing on a frequent basis.

Standing

2 - 3 hours per 8 hour work shift. Alternating to sitting on an occasional basis and to walking on a frequent basis

Key: Rarely = ≤ 5% Occasionally = 0% - 33%; Frequently = 33% - 66%; Constantly = 66% - 100% *(Rarely – would most likely occur in emergency situations only)

Physical Demands:

This position is classified as HEAVY, requiring exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift/move objects. Functional requirements include constant standing and walking. Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, turning and stretching. Finger and hand dexterity required. Visual and hearing acuity essential. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions necessary. Ability to perform basic mathematical computations required.
