Kellogg Community College is recruiting for a dynamic highly motivated individual with strong teaching skills to assume the role of tenure-track faculty for the Dental Hygiene Program. This person must meet the qualifications for "Instructor" set forth by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) by the hire date of October 2025. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide instruction in the classroom, lab and virtual environments,
- Participate in planning and executing the clinical education component of the program,
- Maintain current and relevant curriculum content, design, assessment, and delivery,
- Engage with administration in program and budgetary strategic planning, and
- Actively participate to assure continued program accreditation standards and program effectiveness benchmarks are met.

The job responsibilities are performed in an office area, classroom and presentation venues, and public dental clinic. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as independent mobility between work areas, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations. Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in dental hygiene, allied health, or related field.
- Graduate of a dental program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
- Two or more (2+) years of work experience in clinical dental hygiene.
- Current state of Michigan license, certification in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide administration, and dental hygiene (RDH) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the time of application.
- CPR certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or BLS for Health Care Providers from the American Red Cross. (Please attach certification at time of application.)
- Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university, preferably in dental hygiene, allied health, or related field.
- Community college or associate degree level teaching experience in Dental Hygiene or related subjects.
- Experience in educational program leadership.
- Experience with educational program accreditation.
- Experience with instructional design/assessment and methods.
- Experience with instructional technology.
- Experience with educational learning management system (LMS) platforms.
- Engagement in professional/community service activities.
- Documented background in educational methodology consistent with teaching assignment.
- Experienced in clinical teaching and/or clinical coordination.
- Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology.

09/04/2025 Job Duties Essential Function: PROGRAM INSTRUCTION, COLLABORATION, AND OUTREACH Description:
- Provide instruction to students in accordance with the policies and practices of Kellogg Community College (KCC).
- Engage with employers in the field of dental hygiene to ensure that current and relevant curriculum necessary for the contemporary workforce is maintained.
- Develop curriculum in the dental hygiene program of study. Determine intended course outcomes and develop learning activities and assessments necessary to achieve course outcomes.
- Coordinate lab activities with didactic course content.
- Plan and execute clinical education strategies and evaluate effectiveness.
- Correlate clinical education experience with didactic education.
- Reach out to advise, mentor and remediate students in need.
- Submit student grades and class records according to determined College policies and deadlines.
- Collaborate with dental hygiene colleagues and the Dental Hygiene Director to establish program course schedule that meets student needs.
- Engage with Dental Hygiene Director and colleagues as needed to identify qualified adjunct faculty and provide them with mentorship.
- Maintain current and relevant knowledge expertise in the curricular content required by CODA for the Dental Hygiene Program.
- Maintain professional credentials according to the CODA definition of those required of an "Instructor."
- Maintain current knowledge of trends in the professional discipline and of best practices in educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
- Participate in institutional training in online teaching/learning and in instructional design/delivery.
- Actively partner with the Dental Hygiene Director and KCC administration in activities to ensure ongoing program accreditation through CODA.
- Collaborate with Dental Hygiene colleagues and KCC administration in strategic and budgetary program planning to assure necessary enrollment and resources, including identifying equipment, program improvement and professional development strategies that qualify for Perkins funding and submit required grant requests to the Dental Hygiene Director.
- Serves as a program expert for students and others seeking information about the Dental Hygiene Program. Participate in activities to promote the College and the Dental Hygiene Program.
- Maintain continuous quality improvement processes to assure program effectiveness. Develop strategies intended to address program access, student success, cost efficiency, and Perkins Core Performance Indictors.
- Assume teaching assignments at all college locations and within all college hours of operation.
- Maintain office hour availability to address student needs.
- Seek out and engage in college activities and initiatives that help to advance the mission. Provide service to the college through leadership and participation on various committees and work groups. Attend college events.
- Demonstrate ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the program including multiple modalities, evenings, weekends, and other KCC sites.
- Collaborate with Dental Hygiene Director and faculty colleagues to establish program/course schedule to best meet student needs.
- Maintain regular campus presences through office hours and cooperative attendance and participation in department and institutional meetings and committees.
- Assume responsibility for an active and collaborative role in committee work or projects. Uphold deadlines and produce expected deliverables.
- Maintain current knowledge of trends in the professional discipline and of best practices in educational methodology through continuing professional development.
- Participate in institutional training in online teaching/learning and in instructional design/delivery.
- Maintain professional credentials as required by the State of Michigan and program accreditation standards for continued qualification as dental hygiene education faculty.
- Seek out and engage in college activities and initiatives that help to advance the College mission. Provide service to the College through leadership and participation on various college committees and workgroups. Attend college events.
- Possess and promote knowledge and understanding of college organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures.
- Exercise sound decision-making skills and possess good organizational skills.
- Work independently and communicate effectively.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of technologies, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and social media.
- Exhibit sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of diverse backgrounds and learning styles; employ active learning strategies.
