Position Description Summary:
We seek to feed those who are hungry in West Michigan and partner with others doing the same. We are seeking a person who is passionate about that mission to assist in the intake of needed food and facility care. The purpose of this position is to provide someone who will handle the intake, storage, care, and rotation of the food. As well as performing preventative maintenance as instructed for our equipment.
This position will work between 10-15 hours a week at $16/hr with a raise at a successful 90-day review. Additional hours may be requested as needed. This position reports to the Executive Director.
Essential Function(s) of the Position:
The duties listed below are intended only as typical illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The position is subject to responding to and addressing needs as they arise.
Food Management:
- Handle the unloading, sorting, and inventorying of food donations.
- Ensure food distribution to local food pantry partners.
- Ensure the warehouse and pantry are stocked with all current foods, clean, and organized.
- Ensure expired food is cycled out to farmers or trash.
- Ensure rotation and orderliness of dry / non-perishable food storage area.
- Coach volunteers in stocking and sorting effectiveness.
- Advise manager on the rotation of food in coolers and freezers.
- Assist in food donation pickups (when needed).
Facility Management:
- Oversee timely removal of cardboard, recyclables, and trash.
- Keep the parking lot and grounds clear of debris.
- Keeping the facility clean and organized.
- Performing preventative maintenance as directed.
- Ensure optimal workflow of the warehouse.
- Clean truck and van as needed.
Qualifications and Educational/Experience Requirements
- Knowledge and experience with food handling is preferred.
- Food-safe certification(s) will be required to be completed after hire.
- Ability to perform frequent lifting and lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in Google Workspace.
- Ability to communicate clearly and with kindness.
- Travel may be required: a valid driver’s license and ability to safely drive the ministry vehicles.
- Ability to sign conduct guidelines and overall transparent and high integrity.
